Although Pomona CA is named for the Roman goddess of fruit, oddly enough the city was not home to a single commercial fruit operation at the time that this name was chosen. Pomona CA soon grew into its name, and actually outgrew the name as well. Today Pomona CA is known as more of a residential than an agricultural area. It is also home to several institutions of higher learning such as Cal Poly Pomona and Western University of Health Sciences. Attractions in Pomona CA include the Pomona Swap Meet and Classic Car Show, as well as the LA County Fair.
